Hallway...Before & After

Finally...here are the pictures of my horizontal striped hallway project.
I must admit I am in LOVE with the results...

Before

After

I used Frogtape to tape off  my lines and it worked wonderfully on my textured walls. The lines are so crisp and straight...as necessary for a project like this. See my step by step tutorial here.

The view from the family room...

makes me smile!

Hallway Art

After I finished painting the horizontal stripes on my hallway project I decided to add some new art to this space.
I found a subway art poster and loved all of the inspiring words it had.
I did not want to frame it with glass so needed to find a different way to hang it. I lucked out and found a giclee canvas print that is the EXACT  same size as my poster. I know...amazing!

After spray painting the sides black all I needed to do was attach the poster.

Thats when this Spray Adhesive came in handy.

I just sprayed the canvas and attached the poster. A perfect fit!

I also came across a very cool website called The Phraseology Project.
Graphic artist Drew Melton, got the idea to start designing user submitted words and phrases in order to practice his craft. Check out some of their awesome work here.
I purchased the "Once upon a time" print and was excited when it was delivered just days later.

I quickly opened my packaged and was impressed by the quality and wokmanship in this piece of art. It is even signed by the artist, Drew Melton.

After finding the perfect 12x12 black frame, I hung it in the hallway. It looks great against the new horizontal stripes!

Just a few more final touches and the hallway is done! Pictures coming soon...

Hallway Happiness!

As promised...here are the progress pictures from my Horizontal Stripe Hallway Project

BEFORE...

Work in progress...
I will be using these tools ALOT during this project!

First I painted the white stripes...no taping necessary for these, thank goodness!

Then...after LOTS of tape...I painted the khaki stripes

The big question was whether the FROGTAPE was going to live up to its claim "The sharpest lines possible, making touch-ups a thing of the past."
The moment of truth...

YEA!!

Needless to say I am very happy with the results. Minus a few touch ups needed in the corners...the FROGTAPE worked wonderfully. Be sure to follow the  tips for textured walls found on their website.

The AFTER pictures coming soon....

Color Trends for 2012

Today I had the opportunity to visit the San Francisco Design Center to attend the Colormix 2011 presentation hosted by Sherwin Williams Paint Co.

The event was held in the Robert Allen - Beacon Hill Showroom. Where we were able to socialize and visit with area designers amongst all of the beautiful Robert Allen fabrics. One word...inspiring!

The color trends presentation was give by Jackie Jordon, Director of Color Marketing for Sherwin Williams...and a very good friend of mine. Jackie took all of us in the audience on a visual journey through color trends emerging in design and decor, along with art and fashion, for the coming year 2012.

Her discussion began with monochromatic palettes inspired by Mother Earth.
Focusing on the following four shades;

Red - think rich vibrant saturated reds combined with a palette of corals and salmons.

eclectic entry by maison21  traditional bedroom Dashing Through The Throws  traditional entry Outside Lighting contemporary living room by Garrison Hullinger Interior Design Inc.

Blue - think denim and indigo, the shimmering blues of rivers, lakes and the sea.

traditional living room by Paula Grace Designs, Inc.  eclectic dining room by Kerrie L. Kelly  modern closet by Charles Luck Stone Center  eclectic hall Clarendon Street

Green - think moss covered trees in the forest, rooftop gardens and foliage motifs.

modern landscape by Jeffrey Gordon Smith Landscape Architecture  contemporary dining room by Kate Jackson Design contemporary family room by Eileen Kathryn Boyd  eclectic family room by Tracy Murdock Allied ASID

Neutrals - think organic shades of grain,  pebbles, weathered wood and dried grasses.

traditional family room by Dayna Katlin Interiors  eclectic hall by Annis Lender  eclectic home office by Splendid Willow  contemporary bedroom by Urrutia Design

You can read more about emerging color and design trends in the Stir Magazine by Sherwin Williams, available online here.

Great job Jackie! It was so fun to see you and Thanks for the informative and inspiring presentation!

I would love to hear all of your thoughts on the emerging color trends for the coming year. Stop by and let me know what colors and palettes you are seeing and using this year!

Look to the Horizon...

When I say Horizon...I am not talking about this...

Although a beautiful site!
I am actually referring more to images like this...

I <3 horizontal stripes
and this...

horizontal stripes hallway idea

Yes, I am inspired by all the fabulous pictures of painted horizontal stripes I've been seeing lately. I have decided to add this fresh design element to the hallway in my own home.

It started with this picture by Michelle, over at the blog 4men1lady, of her awesome entryway...
So I immediately went to my Sherwin Williams Color box and selected two paint colors for my horizontal hallway stripes.

After living with the samples taped to the wall for a week...I am ready to begin!
Pictures and progress report to follow...

Have you painted stripes on your walls...horizontal or vertical?
I would love to hear from you and learn any tips that you may have.
