Brown paper packages tied up with string…definitely one of my favorite things!

Hope you enjoyed this little peak into my home! I really love the live tree with the white lights and ornaments…a huge difference from the artificial tree I have been using for the past 15yrs. I did not even unpack my collection of Santas’ that usually sit on my mantel…or any of my other tree trimmings. It will be fun to see them after a year or two of doing something different.

Oh Christmas Tree...my inspiration and my real, live tree

After 15 years of having a beautiful artificial tree…I decided to do something a little different this year. In a word…I wanted to “Simplify” all of my holiday décor…and I found the following images as inspiration…

I pinned these images to my board Christmas Inspiration and set out to find a real…LIVE…tree. I was happy to find just what I was looking for at my local Home Depot. I am so pleased with the way the live tree looks in my home…

Because it is a quite a bit smaller than my 8’ artificial tree…after setting it into a galvanized tub and wrapping the base with burlap, I set it on top of a natural tree stump for height. I still have lots of stumps in my backyard from several pine trees we had removed…see this post.

I added a couple of smaller, decorative pines and just wrapped their containers in a little burlap tied with twine. I am loving the distressed child sized wooden folding chair I found while antiquing with a some girlfriends a few weeks ago…

I also decided to use all white to trim the tree. This is very different that usual…and so much simpler. Perhaps a couple of years without seeing all of my other ornaments will be a good way to get excited to use them again. For now, I am loving this simple, natural, live tree. We plan to take it to our cabin and plant it on our property after the holidays…

Its fun to do something different, and simple. It has me inspired to continue the simple theme around my entire home.

Seasons Greetings ~ Chalkboard Art…

image

I created this new chalk art yesterday to celebrate the holiday season. I have several people ask me where I get my inspiration for my chalkboard canvas…and my answer is Pinterest…of course! One of my most popular boards is Chalkboard Art…see it here.

I like to collect images, graphics, and different fonts…then combine them to create my chalk art.

I prefer the look of hand drawn art that is not too perfect…

I love my chalkboard canvas! You can see how to make your own from this post. It has become my favorite place to create seasonal art and more!

In my last post, I shared a beautiful shot of NYC taken by giveaway sponsor Kaitlin Rebesco. It was exciting to know that I would soon be walking and exploring those actual streets! Here are a few of my own photos of this amazing city.

One day we walked about 10 miles…not kidding!…exploring some of the fabulous neighborhoods and sites. A definite highlight was The High Line

The High Line is a public park built on an historic freight rail line elevated above the streets on Manhattan’s West Side.  The art installations and city views are so cool…

Another day, we walked across the Brooklyn Bridge. Love the architecture and the city views…

Of course, no trip to NYC would be complete with out walking through Central Park…

I love fall…and the colors of the park did not disappoint! Now time to start all of my Christmas décor…not sure I am ready just yet! I may need a little more time to enjoy the current season before rushing into the next.
