Glitter Crowns…

Today I want to share a pretty little project I made recently that is small in size…yet brings a large amount of sparkle to your holiday table!

image

These sparkly Glitter Crowns take just a few items and a few minutes to make!

Supplies ~
Several cardboard tubes ~ from paper towels, t.p., wrapping paper, etc.
Gold and Silver Krylon Spraypaint
Mod Podge
Gold and Silver Glitter

Start with your cardboard tubes and cut them into 2-3 inch high sections (depending on how tall you want your crowns to be). Then cut the points on each section…you will now have a pile of these…

image

Next, spray paint your cardboard crowns ~ be sure to spray the inside of each crown too ~ some silver and some gold…

image

Now get your Mod Podge and glitter ready…

image

Lightly paint each crown with the Mod Podge and roll in glitter…

image

image

That’s it! You now have some sparkle for your holiday table…

image

These festive little crowns can be used several ways. As shown above, I used some as napkin rings…

image

And they are equally cute as place card holders…

For these photos, I set up a display at our shop Hip Chick Designs, to showcase how nice they will look on your holiday table…

Transitions and Burlap Garland...

Hello Everyone. I am in transition mode…in several ways! Since it is the end of November, time to put away all of the fall décor and bring out some Christmas cheer!

image

Before I dive into my numerous bins and boxes of holiday décor, I want to talk about another transition. As I shared with you in this post, I have recently started a dream venture of going into business with Carrie Clayden of Hip Chick Designs. I am currently working in the shop part time, and have signed on to help market and promote the retail side of this amazing art studio/gift shop located in Benicia Ca.

This incredible opportunity will also bring some exciting changes to my blog! Starting this week, I will be featuring items that we are selling in the shop, and make them available to all of you. Since lots of you are too far away to be able to come on over and browse in our shop in person,  you will now have the chance to see, and buy, some of the beautiful hand made, hand painted, re-cycled, re-purposed, and hand selected items we fill the shelves and aisles with at Hip Chick Designs.

The first item to be featured is our Burlap Garland…

image

This beautiful garland is hand made from 6 inch wide burlap ribbon edged with a white finishing stitch.

image

It comes in 6 foot lengths with a loop on each end for hanging. Use on your tree, as a swag on your mantel, framing a doorway, or running down the stair banister mixed with natural greenery. Not only useful during the holidays…it can be used all year long to add some texture and whimsy to any party or occasion.

Here are a few inspiration photos collected from Pinterest and other online sources…

As our introductory offer (perfectly timed on Cyber Monday!)…each 6 foot garland is currently priced at $25.00 + shipping. This is less than half the price I found at several online sites and sources.

I am so excited to be able to offer all of my Elegant Nest followers, and visitors, items from our shop! I look forward to hearing from you about this new feature. Please contact me with any questions or for more info about any of the items shown and how to place your order.

Finally, I want to thank you all for the support and positive feedback I have recieved over the last few months. Starting this blog has been a blessing that I am so thankful to have. The blogging community is one of the most supportive and fun groups I have ever been involved with. I am excited to see where this new venture will take me and how this creative endeavor will expand and grow!

The antique dresser is finished…finally!

Nothing like having 15 members of your family and friends over for dinner to motivate you to finish a project…especially when that project is sitting in the middle of your front room!

image

I have been working on this antique dresser for far too long – see original post here - but the effort has paid off! I love the way it looks in my master bedroom.

Remember how it looked before…

Here is how it looks now…

image

This beautiful dresser has been sitting, waiting, patiently, in my garage for its makeover. I purchased some Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Paris Gray and gave it a fresh new look. After two coats of the Paris Gray, I did just a little bit of distressing, then finished with the Annie Sloan clear wax.

I left the original hardware on because I love the style and look of the patina. I also love the original wooden casters…

image

I set a large mirror, that I have had for years, on top and love the look of it just leaning against the wall. Not sure if I will leave it gold…but it works for now.

image

I will be using this dresser to hold my jewelry and quickly filled it up and styled the top with some of my favorite things…

So happy to have this done…and so pleased with the way it turned out!

Today, I am off to the market to shop for Thursday and prepare the house for our Thanksgiving dinner and guests.

How are you enjoying the Thanksgiving holiday this year?

Glitter Pears & Pinecones…

After announcing my new venture about joining Hip Chick Designs, see full post here…I have been BUSY!

On top of doing all of my regular blog stuff,  design work, and house/family stuff…now I am working on new items to put into the shop this month. Luckily, with sites like Pinterest and the upcoming holidays, there is no shortage of inspiration or ideas of things to make and add to the shop.

Last week, I visited my Pinterest clip board -  DIY ideas - and here is one of projects I decided to make…

Dollar Store fake fruit and glitter

So cute and so simple, lets do it! I purchased some dollar store pears…

image

I decided to paint them with silver paint before applying the glitter – so I covered the stems with blue painters tape so they stay the natural brown color…

image

Then simply spray them with a couple of light coats of my Krylon metallic spray paint in Brilliant Silver…

image

Next, apply some Mod Podge and sprinkle with silver glitter….

image
Wow! What a difference!

image

image

Amazing what a little glitter can do to some simple plastic pears!

So, what does one do when they are sitting at the table with a bottle of Mod Podge, a container of glitter and a bag of these…

image

Well, I am not sure what you would do, but here is what I did…

Glitter Dipped Pinecones

These cute little pinecones look so pretty with their frosted tips. I can see them catching light in a crystal bowl, or on a silver tray.  I even made some that can be hung on a tree,  holiday wreath, or garland…

What is it about glitter that just makes everything look so festive?

Both the pears and the pinecones will be available at the store. We are going to be decking the walls this week and putting out all of the holiday décor and merchandise. So fun!

I will be sharing more holiday items that I have been working on like my burlap and tutu garland, glitter ornaments, and Christmas wreaths over the next couple of weeks. In the meantime, be sure to “like” Hip Chick Designs on Facebook for more photos of featured items and info on our studio classes.
