Chalkboard Project–Sneak Peek…

We are out of town for the Labor Day Weekend, but I wanted to give you a little sneak peek of my chalkboard project that I have been working on this week…

I finished painting the board with chalkboard paint and just had to see what it will look like set inside the frame. I still need to hang it on the wall for the final reveal!

In the meantime…I just could not resist drawing a quick little picture just for fun…

I am really going to enjoy having this chalkboard canvas that I can change with the seasons and my daily moods!

Have a safe and fun weekend!

Spotlight…Hometalk

Have you discovered the Hometalk website yet?

I was recently contacted by a Hometalk contributor and asked to submit a post on my bathroom makeovers. He saw my original blog post and said he would be delighted to have me share this post on the Hometalk.com website!

image

Well…I was thrilled to get the request, and very interested to check out this site dedicated to home improvement. Hometalk is where homeowners, renters, and pros share and help with home and gardening advice and tips.

The nice thing about the Hometalk site is that you don’t have to be a blogger or a pro to set up an account and share tips and projects. Here are a couple of helpful posts to help you set up an account – Getting Started on Hometalk -  and create a post – How to Post Projects. The other great feature of the Hometalk site is the ability to ask questions and get feedback. Not just from bloggers or other homeowners, but from professionals as well!

I have been having a lot of fun sharing some of my own posts and projects on my Hometalk account. You can see them here. Currently, my most viewed post is one from January titled Mission Organization – where I share my tutorial on making fabric covered bulletin boards…

I have also found some new bloggers to follow and new projects I love! My current favorite is from Pam over at the blog DIY Design Fanatic. Check out her Pinterest inspired jute covered vase

What a simple project that transforms an ordinary vase…that we all have in the back of our cabinet somewhere…into one with texture and interest. Thanks to Hometalk for introducing me to Pam and her blog!

Go over to Hometalk today and let me know what you think!

Thrifty Finds for August…

Inspired by the always fun post -  Thrifty Treasures - by Rhoda over on her blog Southern Hospitality… I want to share some of my Thrifty Finds for August!

I have several favorite thrift stores and consignment shops that I like to stop into regularly just to browse and see what treasures I might find. Here are few things I purchased this month…

A set of 4 brass chargers…and a cute little white ceramic bowl woven in a basket pattern…

These will clean up nicely and be a pretty addition to my fall table…

And this hand made bonsai tree with the leaves and fruit carved from soapstone…

And finally, my favorite find this month…

This empty frame was actually found by Mimi at a garage sale for $10…and she knew I would love it, so she bought it for me! Thanks Mom! It measures 2ft x 3ft and I am planning on adding a chalkboard and hanging in my family room.

I have been wanting to make a chalkboard since finding some really cool inspiration photos on Pinterest…

You can see more inspiration pictures on my Pinterest board Chalkboard Art.

The frame is a little distressed and finished in a brown stain with gold accents on the corner detail…

I was planning on painting it a solid color…but am now considering leaving it as is for a while. What do you think? Should I paint the frame or leave it all chippy and distressed?

Do you like to browse thrift stores and antique shops? What is your latest, favorite find?

Powder Room Wallpaper…

I first shared pictures of my downstairs powder room in this post, here is another shot of this little 1/2 bath…

image

I mentioned in that post that I was considering a bold wallpaper for this space. Then, the other day as I was reading some favorite blogs and came across this photo…

Sara Richardson via HGTV

And it got me thinking about wallpaper all over again! I love the bird and tree motif in this wallpaper, and think it would be a fun addition to my powder room. Not that I need to add another project to my current “to do” list, but I am definitely going to move this idea up a few notches!

Here are some other amazing bathrooms featuring bold and beautiful wallpaper…

After doing a little online research, I found the source for the bird wallpaper…

It is from Schumacher and the pattern name is A-Twitter…cute! Using wallpaper in a small space like a powder bath is the perfect place to go big and bold. This paper would bring life to the space without weighing it down too much. I think it would look great paired with the white wainscot and trim.

So tell me…what do you think? Are you a fan of  wallpaper in a bathroom? Would you go big and bold?

My Current Obsession…

Lately…I have been drawn to all things Peacock!

This print by Suzanne Nicoll is just beautiful. I love all of the colors and would love to incorporate them into my décor for fall.

Using the Sherwin Williams Chip It! tool…I was able to come up with a gorgeous color palette to use as inspiration.

I really love all of these jewel tones and may be pulling some of these colors into my home with accessories like pillows, throws, and candles.

Here is some more peacock inspiration that I have been pinning on My Current Obsession board on Pinterest and found browsing…

Dog Days of Summer…

I am always feeling a bit melancholy come the last week of August. With the kids heading back to school and fall in the air, I like to relax and enjoy the dog days of summer…

How are you enjoying the last few days of summer?
